Differences between regular and premium lines of the kittens

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing photos of our cats to highlight the differences between standard and premium bloodlines. You’ll also see how strikingly our kittens change as they grow — their transformation over time is truly fascinating.
Let’s begin with a 3-month-old kitten. At this age, it’s not easy to tell the difference between kittens from different bloodlines. Breeders often refer to them as “potentially show quality” because it’s still too early to accurately predict how their features will develop.
It’s a bit like running into an old classmate years later and being amazed at how much they’ve changed. With cats, that transformation can be even more dramatic than in people.

Now let’s move on to adolescence! Between 5 and 12 months, kittens often go through an “awkward teenage” phase — they may look lanky, slim, and have thinner coats. It’s completely normal and part of their natural development.

However, even during this stage, the unique traits you were hoping for are starting to show. The qualities you invested in — whether it’s the structure, coat texture, or expression — gradually become more noticeable.

By the time they reach two years old, the kitten has fully transformed into an adult cat — much like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. The differences between standard and premium lines become so striking that side-by-side comparisons hardly do them justice.

When guests visit your home, their first reaction is likely to be a simple “Wow.” But in the end, the choice is entirely yours.
Cats also differ in coat quality. Premium-line cats have noticeably denser and softer coat — they often look like real teddy bears, though still not quite as plush as the classic British Shorthair in blue. Standard-line cats have a lighter, more typical coat. This, however, can be a plus, as they usually shed less during seasonal changes.
The coat color is another key difference. Premium-line cats maintain a rich, vibrant shade with a warm, peachy undercoat. In contrast, regular-line cats tend to lose that peach hue as they mature, and their coat may fade into a dull beige-gray tone.
It’s safe to say that any kitten priced under $2,500 is most likely from a standard lineage — no matter where it’s purchased.
When it comes to personality, both standard and premium kittens are equally affectionate and playful — it’s really just a matter of what you prefer!
